We are very pleased to announce that our latest short documentary about the work of Arthur Szyk is available for public viewing. Journey through Szyk’s art guided by a musical score created especially for this 10-minute film by composer Richard Friedman. Be sure to turn the volume way up from the beginning! And feel free to share with your friends!
Directed by Jim Ruxin and produced by Irvin Ungar, “Soldier in Art: Arthur Szyk” is a four-part suite interpreting Szyk’s visual commentary on American democracy, the horrors of Nazism and the Holocaust, and the rebirth of the Jewish people in the Land of Israel. Together, the images and music express the essence of Szyk’s activism for freedom, dignity, and the human soul.
It was shown at 9 film festivals on 3 continents in 2014. It also had a week-long run at the Laemmle Theatre in Los Angeles. Its venues included Cleveland, OH, Palm Beach, FL, Providence, RI, Palm Springs, CA, Los Angeles, CA, Philadelphia, PA, New York City, Berlin, Germany, and Melbourne and Sydney, Australia.
