Society Programs

International Tours
In 2005, The Society coordinated two trips to Poland to coincide with exhibitions of Arthur Szyk original art, as well as special receptions at the American Embassy in Warsaw and the Consulate in Krakow. In 2008 we offered the Szyk in Berlin Culture Tour to coincide with the Deutsches Historisches [German Historical] Museum exhibition, "Arthur Szyk - Drawing Against National Socialism and Terror" (August 29, 2008 through January 4, 2009).

Image Database
The Society is creating the first database of Szyk's original works of art, which will be accessible worldwide to researchers and the general public for a nominal fee. The database will categorize all known pieces of Szyk's art, which are housed in collections worldwide. It will also be an important resource, supporting The Society's various programs, especially the creation of exhibitions, and development of educational materials. The database will contain the following categories of information on each work of art: image, title, year, place, medium, dimensions, style, subject areas, keywords, description, exhibition history, provenance, and ownership.

Collections: Loans and Consultations
The Society has developed relationships with public institutional collections and private collections of Arthur Szyk's art, both in the United States and abroad. The Society also works closely with the artist's daughter, Alexandra Szyk Bracie. Through these relationships The Society is able to facilitate loans to other exhibiting institutions (museums, art galleries, libraries, community centers, etc.).

Archives
The Society has access to primary and secondary source materials representing the life and art of Arthur Szyk: documents and correspondence, books and magazines, transparencies and slides, audio and video tapes, posters, exhibition panels. The Society owns the very special Julia Szyk Memoirs, which chronicle the years spanning her marriage to Szyk and the artistic, social and political worlds they shared. The Society plans to organize an inventory of the archives and produce a catalogue of its contents for research use by individuals and institutions including scholars, artists and art historians, collectors and students, and advocates for social change.

Book Publications
The Society encourages the publication of books about Arthur Szyk, his art and messages. To date, The Society has cooperated with the publication of: the new edition of The Szyk Haggadah (Burlingame, CA: Historicana, 2008); Arthur Szyk - Drawing Against National Socialism and Terror, Katja Widmann, Johannes Zechner, Irvin Ungar, Guest Curator (Deutsches Historisches Museum, Berlin, 2008); Justice Illuminated: The Art of Arthur Szyk, Irvin Ungar, Curator (Chicago: 1998); The Art and Politics of Arthur Szyk, Steven Luckert (United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, 2002); Arthur Szyk: Artist, Jew, Pole, Joseph P. Ansell (Oxford: The Littman Library of Jewish Civilization, 2004); and Arthur Szyk: Indignant Jewish Illuminator, Sodei Rinjiro (Tokyo: Shakai Hyoronsha, 2007).

Educational Resources
The Society collaborates with educators and social change advocates around the U.S. to conceptualize the goals and design of its education programs. The Society has produced a university and secondary school Study Guide to serve as a companion guide and curriculum stimulus to accompany The Society's traveling exhibitions, with the aim to engage students with Szyk's artistic and social messages.

Speakers Bureau
The Society provides speakers for both university and high school settings, as well as informal programs entitled "Evenings With Arthur Szyk." In addition, The Society's Curator is available to speak at exhibition openings as well as participate in scholarly panel discussions.
